Frontera X Acquires DigiFarm — Building the Application Layer for Earth Intelligence

Frontera X Technologies has completed the acquisition of DigiFarm AS, the Norwegian geospatial AI company behind one of the world's most advanced satellite intelligence platforms. The transaction, completed in January 2026, unites Frontera X's deep agricultural industry expertise with DigiFarm's proprietary AI engine – creating the foundation for DERIVED, a new category of AI-powered Earth intelligence.

Why this matters

83% of the world's agricultural field boundaries are smaller than 2 hectares – too small to monitor reliably with public satellite data. Commercial high-resolution imagery exists, but at costs that make continuous, large-scale monitoring economically prohibitive for insurers, commodity traders, and governments.

DigiFarm solved this. Its AI engine transforms free Sentinel-2 imagery into 1-meter effective resolution – delivering field-level intelligence at a fraction of the cost of commercial alternatives, with ~2.5-day global revisit across 12 spectral bands.

Under the DERIVED brand, this technology is now being deployed as the execution layer for agricultural insurance, commodity verification, and sustainability compliance – turning raw satellite data into decision-ready evidence packs for regulated industries.

Already in market

The platform has processed over 750 million hectares across 30+ countries for 60+ enterprise clients, with software-like unit economics that improve with every hectare processed.

Since joining forces, Frontera X and DigiFarm have been rapidly commercialising across multiple verticals – insurtech, commodity markets, and sustainability compliance. The combined team is deploying AI-driven underwriting models powered by large language models, satellite-verified crop monitoring for commodity traders, and automated compliance evidence packs for regulated supply chains.

Among the early milestones: Europe's first satellite-verified spring crop replanting emergence guarantee, launched in Eastern Europe – delivering automated emergence detection within 20–25 days, claims assessment within 48 hours, and a 17× increase in price per hectare compared to legacy manual inspection workflows.

What stays the same

DigiFarm's leadership, team, and operations continue unchanged. All existing client contracts, commercial agreements, and projects remain in place. Customers and partners will experience no disruption.

What changes

Scale. DERIVED now has the strategic backing and resources to accelerate its push into agricultural insurance, EUDR compliance, USDA crop programs, and commodity supply chain verification — a combined addressable market exceeding €12 billion.
